In this review we focus on the Ford Transit panel van, which has been available since launch in two equipment trim levels: Base (now known as Leader) and Trend.Ī higher-specification third trim level called the Transit Limited joined the range as part of the 2019 facelift, with the Trail following in 2020. Meanwhile, the payload improvements come from a whole series of weight saving measures, including a new design of rear axle for rear-drive models, a new manufacturing technique for the wheels, a new aluminium bonnet and a new composite bulkhead.Īs a result, rear-wheel drive models see payload increase by up to 80kg and front-wheel drive models see it boosted by up to 48kg. A pure-electric version of the Transit is set to go on sale in 2021. This technology includes new 4G connectivity, enhanced engines with up to 185hp, electric power-assisted steering (EPAS) and even a mild hybrid electric vehicle (mHEV) option called EcoBlue Hybrid. But more significantly, it also comes with increased payload, an updated cab and lots of new technology. This included a new front-end design with changes to the grille and bumpers plus distinctive new LED daytime running lights (pictured below). In 2019, the Transit received a major facelift – a process Ford generally refers to as an MCA or Mid-Cycle Action. The interior is clad in easy-clean leather. At the same time, a new FORD grille design helps it stand out from the crowd.Ĭhief upgrade for front-wheel drive models is the addition of a standard-fit mechanical limited slip differential (mLSD), which should help the van find greater traction in slippery conditions. The Ford Transit Trail (pictured below) is aimed at buyers who need a van that's just a bit tougher than normal and better equipped to deal with low-grip surfaces. This works with the FordPass Pro smartphone app to deliver extra features, including enhanced security via a forthcoming Guard Mode. Plus, all Transit models now get the FordPass Connect on-board modem as standard equipment. What's more, a new 5.0-tonne Transit variant gives Ford's household name greater payload capacity than ever before.
